Makabayan Coalition today denounced the secret operations of elements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to engage in partisan politics by actively campaigning against Makabayan senatorial bets Nacionalista Party guest candidates Satur Ocampo and Liza Maza, as well as Makabayan party-list groups.
“Our ground campaigners have monitored numerous reports indicating a massive military operation to malign our two senatorial candidates and our party-list groups in the May 10, 2010 polls,” said Maita Gomez, chairperson of Makabayan.
Makabayan senatorial bet and Nacionalista Party guest candidate Satur Ocampo today said that Malacanang has itself to blame if no one believes its assertions that there will be no hitches or delays in Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's exit from the presidency in June.
"Pres. Arroyo has lied before – back in 2002 she said that she would not run for the presidency but she reneged on her word. The more denials Malacañang issues regarding the matter of Arroyo's exit, the more people become skeptical. In any case, the Filipino people will remain watchful against any and all attempts to keep Arroyo in office beyond June 30, 2010," Ocampo said.
Makabayan Coalition denounced the partisan efforts of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to vilify and eventually cause the disqualification of opposition candidates, especially Makabayan senatorial bets and Nacionalista Party guest candidates Satur Ocampo and Liza Maza.
AFP recently claimed having captured documents from the New People’s Army that supposedly say the NPA has endorsed Ocampo, Maza and even NP presidential candidate Manny Villar, as well as some local candidates, after the opposition candidates paid the so-called “permit-to-campaign” and “permit-to-win” fees.
“Needless to say, the charge is utterly ridiculous,” said Maita Gomez, chairperson of Makabayan. “Second, this clearly shows the partisanship of the military. Their apparent agenda in the coming May 10, 2010 election is to vilify those candidates who are the most ardent critics of this regime.”
