For two straight congresses, the Arroyo family dynasty has cornered four seats in the Philippine House of Representatives – possibly the most number of seats in a parliament ever occupied by a family.
“I will be writing the Guinness World Records to register the Arroyo family's feat so that they can be recorded side by side with former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos, who is listed as one of the world's biggest looters, and wife Imelda Marcos for her 3,400 pairs of shoes,” Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casino said.
“Mikey Arroyo’s entry in the partylist race as first nominee of his own partylist is an absolute travesty and a bare-faced bastardization of the partylist system. The Arroyos are really hell-bent in making the House of Representatives an Arroyo-land”.
Thus said Nacionalista-Makabayan senatorial candidate Liza Maza today in response to reports from COMELEC and based on the certificate of nomination filed by Ang Galing Pinoy Party showing Mikey Arroyo as its leading nominee.
“There is no way that Mikey Arroyo can represent the marginalized and underrepresented sector. This is an outright violation of Section 5 of Republic Act No. 7941 or the Party-list System Act that requires aspiring nominees to be Filipino citizens belonging to marginalized and underrepresented sectors, organizations and parties,” Maza said.
Makabayan senatorial bet and Nacionalista Party guest candidate Satur Ocampo today joined various sectors in condemning the Supreme Court decision allowing Pres. Arroyo to appoint justices of the Court despite the Constitutional ban on presidential appointments, saying it was part of plans to protect her from suit and allow a comeback via Charter change.
"Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's immediate plans are becoming more and more transparent as the days pass. With the SC decision, she will be able to hand-pick the next Supreme Court chief justice and another justice thereby making the Supreme Court a purely Arroyo-appointed and subservient Court," Ocampo said.
