Maza slams Arroyo's 12% VAT on Toll Fees

Makabayan-Nationalista Senatorial bet Liza Maza hit Bureau of Internal Revenue's (BIR) declared imposition of 12% Value-Added Tax on toll fees starting on April 1, Maundy Thursday, calling it an added burden on the heavy cross the Filipino motorists are already carrying.

"This current administration indeed shows no penitence in the suffering it has caused to the people. Ito na mismo ang nagpapako sa mamamayan sa krus ng paghihirap at krisis," Maza said.

Makabayan senatorial bet and Nacionalista Party guest candidate Satur Ocampo today slammed what he said was the Macapagal-Arroyo administration's sneaky move to extract more money from taxpayers.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has released a circular ordering tollway operators to impose a 12% value-added tax on toll fees for private vehicles starting April 1, 2010.

"The Macapagal-Arrroyo administration sneaked behind the people's back to spring this latest tax imposition. It's a revenue-generating measure for a corrupt administration that's on its way out. Yet again, Filipinos will not benefit but be burdened by this," OCampo said.
