"This is the worst gift the 26 women of Morong 43 could ever receive this centennial celebration of International Women's Day," Maza said.
Makabayan-Nacionalista senatorial bet Liza Maza expressed deep disappointment over the Court of Appeals decision junking the petition for habeas corpus of the so-called Morong 43.
"I expected the CA to uphold justice and grant the 43 health care workers freedom from the custody of the AFP in Camp Capinpin, considering the many violations committed against them during their arrest, not to mention the different forms of torture they have to endure while in detention," Maza said.
"This is the worst gift the 26 women of Morong 43 could ever receive this centennial celebration of International Women's Day," Maza said.
The three term Gabriela representative said that the President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo should immediately step in on the Morong 43 case or expect greater condemnation for her administration.
Despite the CA decision, Maza has high hope that the Commission on Human Rights, where the families of the detainees filed complaints against the AFP, will hear more of the Morong 43's call for justice.
"We will not stop until the doctors, nurses, and community health workers who chose to serve their poor fellow Filipinos are given the justice due them," Maza said. ###
